Cookies, advertising, and the data we keep or do not keep.

InheritByState is a static website that publishes public inheritance law as tables. This privacy policy explains what we collect, what we do not collect, and how advertising works on the site. We wrote it in plain language so you can understand the choices without a legal background.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. A cookie is a tiny text file stored by your browser. We set basic cookies for privacy-friendly analytics that measure anonymous traffic, such as which pages are read most and how long a visit lasts. We do not set cookies to build a detailed profile of you across other websites, and we do not sell any information the analytics produce.

Third-party advertising

Google serves as a third-party vendor and supplies the advertising that may appear on some pages. Google and its partners use advertising cookies to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This is standard behavior for sites that display Google ads, and it lets the reference stay free to read.

DoubleClick and advertising cookies

Google uses the DoubleClick cookie to enable interest-based advertising. The DART cookie lets Google and its partners show ads shaped by your browsing across participating sites. You can control how that cookie is used through the choices described below, including turning interest-based ads off entirely.

Opt out of personalized ads

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com. There you can turn off interest-based ads and review the choices tied to your account. Doing so does not remove ads; it only stops them from being personalized using your browsing history. You may still see general ads that are not based on your activity.

Industry opt-out pages

You may also review the choices offered by the advertising industry. The Network Advertising Initiative at networkadvertising.org and the About Ads coalition at aboutads.info provide opt-out tools that apply across many participating ad networks, not only Google. Using optout.aboutads.info lets you decline interest-based advertising from the members listed there in one place.

Children

This reference is written for adults handling a family estate. We do not knowingly target children, and we do not collect information from anyone we know to be under the age of thirteen. If you believe a child has reached the site, no extra data is gathered beyond the anonymous analytics described above.

Data we do not collect

We do not ask for your name, address, or inheritance details. The tables are read-only reference content. If you email us to report a changed statute, we keep only the message needed to act on the correction, and we delete it once the update is made or rejected.

Retention and changes

Anonymous analytics are kept only as long as needed to understand which references help readers most. We may update this policy when the site adds a feature. The version on this page is the one that applies while you read it, and the review year shown in the footer reflects the last pass.
